| Lone inspects Women’s hostel, proposed site for swimming-pool in MAM College | | ‘Says teacher should be role model for students’ | | Early Times Report
jammu, Apr 24: Minister for Higher Education Mr. Mohammad Akbar Lone today visited MAM College, Jammu and inspected pace of on-going construction work on Women’s Hostel and Indoor Sports Complex. Rs.2.25 crore has already been sanctioned on these projects. The Minister also inspected the proposed site for construction of Swimming Pool at MAM College, Jammu. He directed the concerned to start construction work on the project immediately. During the visit, the Minister was apprised that Rs.1.00 crore has already been sanctioned by the University Grants Commission for the project. Mr. Lone directed the executing agencies to gear up their field functionaries and speed up the pace of work on all projects under execution in the College and complete them in a stipulated time frame. The Minister called for close coordination between the College Management and executing agencies so that the projects completed well in time. He also asked them to work in unison. Earlier, the Minister presided over a function organized by the Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar in connection with the felicitation ceremony of Prof. Vidya Gupta, former Principal, Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar and Parade, held here today. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Lone said that education being a vital sector continues to receive the attention of the Government and efforts will be made to plug the gaps. “Our mission is to provide quality education and push forward the country in general and State in particular in the field of education”, he said while elaborating education as key to overall development. He asked the teaching community to work hard adding that teacher should be role model for the students so that the society will reform globally. He said that knowledge is the greatest power which only can liberate the society from the web of ignorance and uncertainty. He said that education sector is receiving focused attention of the Government and a number of innovative measures have been initiated to expand the reach of education to every part especially rural and far off areas of the state. The Minister stressed to work together and try to improve the education system in the State. Appreciating the role played by the former Principal Prof. Vidya Gupta, Mr. Lone said that her dedication and contribution towards the education system during her tenure would be remembered. Earlier in her welcome address, Principal of the College highlighted the life time achievements of Prof. Gupta. |
