| PIO files contradictory replies to same query | | SIC directs to provide correct information | | Arun Singh JAMMU, Aug 1: In an apparent attempt to mislead information seeker under Right To Information (RTI) Act, Public Information Officer (PIO) Chief Engineer, PHE Rural Division Jammu provided contradicting information in response to same query on two separate RTI applications. Sources told Early Times that one Raj Kumar had moved an application under Jammu and Kashmir RTI Act, 2009 on April 4, 2013 seeking information related to total number of permanent and daily wager employees working in PHE Rural Sub-Division Marh Block. In response to RTI, PIO provided inadequate information to the information seeker vide office letter No. PHER/1044-46 dated May 2, 2013 divulging that no daily wager had been employed in Marh block instead it had engaged 22 need based employees, they said. Unsatisfied with the information provided by the PIO PHE, seeker again moved a fresh application to PIO Chief Engineer PHE , but this time, he received different reply, informing that there were two daily wagers in PHE in Marh Block totally contradicting its previous reply, sources said. "Even these daily wagers have also drawn their salary," they added. On receiving two contradicting replies provided by PIO Chief Engineer PHE Rural Division Jammu, seekers filed first appeal on May 2, 2013 before Chief Engineer PHE division Jammu but failing to get response of his first appeal, the information seeker approached the State Information Commission (SIC) by filing second appeal on June 6, 2013 alleging that he did not receive requisite information. However, SIC taking cognizance of the matter found that PIO Chief Engineer PHE Rural Division Jammu has not provided required information to the seeker and ordered to provide relevant information at the earliest. |
