| BOPEE's mission secrecy that backfired | | | Avinash Azad JAMMU, Aug 1: The 'innovative' concept of compiling and packing of question papers for various professional courses from outside the state, adopted for the first time by Board of Professional Entrance Examination (BOPEE) to bring secrecy is has cost heavy for students, as this decision was found to be responsible for paper leak and chaos created recently. Sources told Early Times that for the first time in history to bring transparency and secrecy, the BOPEE had adopted a new system which had proved futile. "Earlier, BOPEE's papers were compiled and packed within state, but its new step had failed to ensure secrecy", sources said, adding that now more options were being explored for secrecy. It is pertinent to mention here that BOPEE had to cancel Chemistry paper and postpone the Biology paper of the CET due to its negligence which led to the leakage of the Biology paper a day ahead of its scheduled exam. Later it cancelled all the papers and rescheduled the examination on July 27 and 28. Due to the mess up, around 15,000 candidates aspiring to get into various professional courses like MBBS, BDS, Engineering, BVSc and BSc (Agriculture) were left in distress. The recent paper leakage episode has also raised questions about the functioning of this examination body conducting entrance exams for various professional undergraduate and post graduate courses. The Board authorities have shown slackness in discharging their duties in a fair and professional manner while conducting the CET 2013. J&K BOPEE Act 2002 accords it functional autonomy so that it remains free from external interference and extraneous considerations in respect of making selection of candidates for admission purpose. But despite having such autonomy, the BOPEE has failed to come to the expectations of people and the student community. |
