| Module was receiving orders from Salahudin to kill Sarpanchs in Sopore, adjacent areas | | Police bust HM module in Sopore, arrest four | | Jehangir Rashid Srinagar, Aug 1: Police today claimed to have busted a module of Hizbul Mujahideen in the restive Sopore area of North Kashmir's Baramulla district by arresting four members of the module. Members of the module had last week killed SPO Mudasir Ahmad and also carried out attack on a Sarpanch in the area leading to grievous injuries to him. A police spokesman while quoting the district police authorities said that the module had got instructions from HM Supremo, Syed Salahudin to carry out more attacks on Sarpanchs in the Sopore and adjacent areas. The spokesman said that Salahudin had asked the members of module to kill at least five Sarpanchs in the Sangrama area of Baramulla district by Eid-ul-Fitr. "After the recent attack on Sarpanch Khazir Mohammad Parray of Krankshivan and the killing of Mudasir Ahmad Dar a SPO at Untoo Hamam, Sopore; police with the assistance of Army and CRPF started investigation of these attacks. During investigation an eye witness account pointed towards the involvement of a suspect identified as Asif Ahmad Dar alias Ashmate son of Ghulam Hassan Dar resident of Mumkak-Sopore," said the police spokesman. The police spokesman said that Sopore Police, 22 RR and CRPF laid a cordon of the house of Asif who jumped from the second storey of his house and attempted to fire upon advancing party but his pistol got stuck and he was apprehended. He added that on Asif's disclosure and as well as eye witness account one more suspect Aqib Ahmad Mir son of Mohammad Ramzan Mir resident of Khawaja Gilgit Sopore was also arrested. One more pistol was recovered from his possession. "The duo revealed involvement of two more individuals in commission of crime and conspiracy. Both the accused namely Mehraj-u-din Rather alias Shabir son of Gulzar Ahmad and Fayaz Ahmad Lone son of Abdul Rashid residents of village Krankshivan-Sopore were also arrested by police with the assistance of 52 RR and CRPF. Two more pistols were recovered from their possession," said the spokesman. The spokesman said that during the questioning it was revealed that on July 26, Asif Ahmad Dar, Mehraj-u-din Rather and Fayaz Ahmad offered prayers in Jamia Masjid Krankshivan where Sarpanch Khazir Mohammad was also present. He said Asif with backup support of other two fired upon the Sarpanch from point blank. Assuming the Sarpanch to be dead, the trio fled away from the spot. "On July 28, Asif and Aqib went to Untoo Hamam and attacked SPO Mudasir Ahmad Dar killing him on spot. Mudasir was a member of anti-narcotics squad of Sopore Police. During questioning it got revealed that the four were affiliated with Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) working under direct command of HM Commander Imtiyaz Ahmad Kandoo alias Fayaz and another HM militant Mehraj-u-din Halwai," said the police spokesman. The police spokesman said that Mehraj-u-din had plans to kill at least five more Sarpanchs before Eid-ul-Fitr in the Sangrama area. He said these militants were receiving orders directly from HM supremo Mohammad Yousuf Shah alias Syed Salahudin based in Pakistan to kill the Sarpanchs. "Asif has a history of drug addiction and stone pelting. He was involved in case FIR No's: 308/2010, 324/2010 and 330/2010 U/S 147,148,149,336, 307 and 427 RPC of P/S Sopore. The second accused Aqib Ramzan is a school dropout. Mehraj-u-din Rather is an ex-militant who had gone to POK in 2000 for training," said the police spokesman. The police spokesman said that after his return from POK Mehraj was arrested in Baramulla in 2003. His father Gulzar Ahmad has also been arrested in 2005 with fake currency at Goshbug- Pattan. During 2011 Mehraj again got associated with Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) and was subsequently arrested along with a pistol and two hand grenades from Zakura-Srinagar. A case FIR No: 19/2011 U/S 7/25 stands registered in the matter with Police Station Zakura Srinagar. Fayaz had earlier been an over ground worker of the militants Ishtiyaq Pir of Hygam and Zahoor Ganie alias Vicky of Krankshivan in 2007. |
