| As Shri Amarnath pilgrimage thins out, Pilgrims urge better arrangements | | | SRINGAR, July 31: The pilgrims visiting the holy cave of Swami Amarnath Ji have made an appeal to Shri Amarnath Shrine Board to take sale of prashad for pilgrims into its own hands as in holy shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi Katra. The hundreds of pilgrims who return after performing the darshan at holy cave of Swami Amarnath situated at an altitude of 14000 feet in Anantnag district of Kashmir Valley have demanded that the SASB should take the sale of prashad into its own hands as has been done by the Board at Mata Vaishno Devi shrine. These pilgrims said that this will make prasad available to pilgrims at reasonable rates. The decision taken by Shri Mata Vashno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB) has proved very fruitful for the pilgrims of Mata Vaishno Deviji. The pilgrims have decided to approach the SASB authorities through the respective social organizations of their states. These pilgrims while expressing satisfaction over the arrangements have demanded installation of tents near the holy cave for the shelter of yatris especially during the night hours. They were also opposed to granting of permission to private parties for installation of tents for haltage of pilgrims on commercial basis saying that the private parties were charging exorbitant rates from the pilgrims. The Shrine Board should install its own tents or fix the reasonable rates for the private parties installing the tents near holy shrine or other places. The pilgrims also expressed concern over the reduction of sugar and other quota to langers providing free service to yatris and demanded that the quota be increased as per the previous procedure. They urged the Union Government to provide a special subsidy quota for the pilgrims as the State Government was unable to bear the same. |
