| Cloudburst devastates Village in Kishtwar One killed | | | Early Times Report
Kishtwar Aug 1: Cloudburst followed by flash floods in Sigdi area of Chatroo Tehsil in Kishtwar District Thursday claimed life of one person while several houses, hydel floor mills and crops suffered massive damage . Livestock was also washed away in flash floods. As per the locals, the cloudburst took place at around 7.45 am followed by flash flood and within no time the mud, garbage and boulders entered into houses. The eyewitness said that massive flood created panic among the people who were seen running helter shelter for safe cover. As per the locals the cloudburst took place in Gratnar area some 8 KM from Sigdi village and 45 KM from District headquarter Kishtwar. After hearing about the cloudburst Tehsildar Chatroo Mohsin Raza Ahanger, SHO Police Station Chatroo Farooq Ahmed Khateeb and troops of 11 RR rushed to the spot and started rescue operation. After hectic efforts, Army and Police brought out the dead body of Chuni Lal son of Thakur resident of Gwarian Bhatta from the debris of hydel floor mill. Administration has constituted teams to access the losses. Paddy and Maize crops have suffered massive damages as well. According to local resident Dr. Asif Dev, damages due to flood could have been avoided if the government had made embankments along the inhabitations. Another villager Ghulam Mohudin said that the deceased who had lost his life in this tragedy belonged to poor family and demanded compensation to the next of the kin. He also demanded compensation on account of crops damaged due to flood and also in favour of hydel mill owners. While talking to "Early Times" Tehsildar Chatroo Mohsin Raza Ahanger said that the flash floods had caused massive damages in the area, particularly to crops and public property. He said that government nursery has also suffered damages due to floods followed by mud slides. Meanwhile MLA Inderwal Ghulam Mohammad Saroori expressed his grief and sorrow over the loss of life in this tragic incident. He demanded adequate compensation to the effected families. |
