| Shahzad Khan anguished over neglected of health sector in Rajouri | | | Early Times Report
Rajouri, July 1: Senior leader of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Shahzad Khan has expressed his anguish over the alleged neglect and unfortunate state of affairs in the health sector in Rajouri district. In a statement he criticized the government for its failure to give basic minimum health facilities to the people. "District Hospital Rajouri that falls under 200 bedded Grade IV fails to have the basic minimum requirement as laid down by Indian Public Health Standards (IPHS). Starting from the number of Medical Superintendent, Doctors/Specialists, Sr. Consultant Medical Superintendent, Doctors/Specialists, Sr. Consultant their sanctioned strength is 55 while only 25 are posted thus creating a vacancy of 27," he said. "To mention a few instances as per IPHS guidelines there have to be three Gynae and Obst specialists but the Hospital has a sanctioned strength of two such doctors and only one is posted while no Consultant Anesthesia, Radiologist among others are posted there. Number of paramedical staff is less compared to their number sanctioned," he added. Besides, Shahzad claimed, there are no medicines and glucose available to the patients and their wards have to purchase these basic articles from open market where the chemists fleece them. Talking of the PHC's, Shahzad said that their position is pathetic when compareed with what these ought to be. "In PHC Lah, there is neither a Medical Officer nor a dentist. Of the 20 sanctioned posts, only nine are posted which include one Jr. Staff Nurse, one Jr.Lab Tech, two FMPHW, one Nursing Orderly, one Driver, one Chowkidar, one S/W and one Contingent Safaiwala. Ironically there is neither any lab facility nor any ambulance. Similarly in Androoth PHC is sans a doctor with only a dentist, a driver and a safaiwala to cater to the people," he added. Shahzad alleged that the centrally sponsored flagship programme National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) is also made defunct. "The state government has failed to release its share for funds due to which the Union Health Ministry is forced to withhold the funding to the state. State government has also failed to start the Emergency Ambulance Service here. To encourage the doctors to work in far flung areas, the Centre has decided to pay special incentives but the state government has not taken any initiative," he said. |
