| JSM joins chorus for separate statehood for Jammu | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 1: After Shiv Sena and Panthers Party now it is the turn of Jammu State Morcha (JSM) to join the chorus in support of demanding statehood for Jammu after the Congress led UPA govt decided to carve out Telangana from Andhara Pradesh. The JSM leaders, who may have little support base in Jammu, have activated their cadre to pledge their support for the cause of separate statehood for Jammu. Addressing a press conference here today Prof Virender Gupta, President JSM demanded trifurcation of the state. Referring to the impulsive statement of Chief Minister over creation of Telangana leaders of the JSM present on the occasion said by making such a statement even CM has recognized and supported the demand of a separate state for Jammu region. "His denial that Ladakh is not heading towards any UT status again indirectly amounts to his realization of the demand of UT status for Ladakh," they said. The JSM leaders also welcomed the UPA govt's decision to create the state of Telangana JSM leaders. They demanded that the issue of trifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir state on regional basis should also be considered by the UPA government as this is the long pending demand of the people of Jammu region and Ladakh regions. "Carving out Kashmir State, Jammu State and Ladakh as UT is an extremely genuine and viable demand," they said. Referring to the other important issues attached with the separate statehood the JSM leaders claimed both Valley and Jammu province have requisite infrastructure needed for the creation of new states. "Both have separate Secretariat buildings and other government offices. There shall be no dispute on the location of capital as both are the capitals of present Jammu and Kashmir State. There shall be no dispute on the river water between Jammu State, Kashmir State and the proposed UT Ladakh. Both Jammu and Valley have economical viability to have status of a separate states," they added. The JSM leaders claimed that for past several decades the people of Jammu and Ladakh have been neglected in all respects and have been facing the neglect at the hands of Kashmiri dominance. "Their experience of the last about 63 years has made them realize that it is difficult to get justice in the present political set up. Problems of displaced persons of 1947 from the Pakistan occupied part of Jammu and Kashmir and from Chhamb in 1965, 1971 or of those of West Pakistan refugees have still not been addressed so far and are not going to be addressed by any of the Kashmir dominated Government because of its vested interest," they said. "They have been deprived of their share in the democratic, administrative, social and economic processes and the separate statehood is the need of the hour." |
