| Army resent Lone's insinuations | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 1: Senior Army functionaries are said to have resented Minister for Higher Education Mohammad Akbar Lone's insinuation against the role being played by the troops deployed within Jammu and Kashmir. Government circles said that a note was being submitted by the senior Army functionaries to the Ministry of Defence dilating on the malicious statement from Lone against the Army. These circles said that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah too may be approached with the request for preventing ministers from making "irresponsible" statements. Army circles have described Lone's charges against troops as baseless. They said that Lone was simply rationalizing his frustration over the recent incident in which his car and the cavalcade following him were stoned by people in his Assembly constituency by raising finger against the Army for inciting people to pelt stones on minister's car. Lone has said police was helpless before army and alleged that army was trying to revive Ikhwani Raj. He alleged that the Army killed two youth in Markundal area and despite having lodged a murder case against the Army the police adopted delaying tactics to get the guilty troopers punished. Asserting that police was helpless before Army, he said "Due to this helplessness, not a single Army man has been punished for committing HR violations in the State. Due to inaction of police, Army personnel now believe that nobody can dare to prosecute and punish them for killing innocent people." The minister alleged army is eager and hell-bent to revive 'Ikhwani Raj' in Kashmir. "It was Army, which encouraged Ikhwanis especially Kuka Parray to indulge in death and destruction. At the behest of Army, Kuka Parray went on rampage and indulged in scores of carnages. His sons are equally responsible for the killing of innocent people and the property they have acquired belongs to people of Kashmir". He alleged that army in league with Ikhwanis were enacting drama in his Sonawari constituency and instigating youth to pelt stones. Army circles said that there was perfect coordination between the troops and the police and this has helped the two to carry out successful anti insurgency operations in the state. They said it was beyond human conception and reality that troops can incite people to stone the car of the minister. These circles requested the Minister to observe restraint in his statements and avoid creating added law and order problems. They suggested to the Minister not to blame troops for the ire he was facing from people. |
