Udhampur, Aug 1: Police continuing its in curb on traffic law violators ahead of Independent Day, cracked down on traffic violators and penalized some 800 vehicles during the recently concluded month. "All our officers will be out on the city, cracking the whip against traffic violators," said SSP Udhampur Anil Magotra. SSP Magotra said, "Special drive proposed to check traffic violations, be conducted for the last one month to crack down on under age drivers, tripling, using cell phone while driving, not wearing helmets & seat belts and against drunken driving." "Over-speeding will be dealt with seriously," the officer said further adding about 800 traffic violators were challaned in the month of July, besides routine checking of the vehicles keeping in view the upcoming Independence Day. He also cautioned parents of minors driving cars and two-wheelers that they too are liable for penalty and said the vehicle insurance would be forfeited for any faulty driving by their wards. A little caution on part of the parents and the individuals driving can help in saving a life, he said. With all these efforts of the police, the accident rate has come down as a special drive conducted yielded good results. The special drives are intended to 'create awareness', SSP Udhampur Magotra said. |
