| Wild beasts on prowl in upper reaches of Budgam; 5 year old girl mauled to death | | | ET REPORT Budgam, Aug 13: Insha Bila a five year old girl was mauled to death by a bear in Jeddan - Kutabal village of Chadoora tehsil in Budgam district on Monday evening. According to local residents the girl was playing near her house when she was taken away by the wild beast by twisting her between the jaws. The residents along with people from adjoining villages started beating drums in the village so that beast could be found and little girl saved but this didn't happen. On Tuesday the locals recovered part of her body from the local maize fields thus making it clear that the girl has been killed by the bear. Official of the of the wildlife department came to the village on Tuesday but failed to catch the wild animal. The Chadoora police have registered a case in this matter. The locals have demanded that some wildlife guards or hunters should be send to the village so that they kill the beast in case it attacks the village again. Pertinent to mention that same bear seriously injured two men at Thera area of Gogee Pathree in Chadoora some 15 days back and one among the injured men according to locals died in hospital at Srinagar . According to wildlife experts the local residents of the hilly villages of Budgam have been involved in severe timber smuggling in the past and as the forest areas have been turned into agricultural land the wild animals in search of food start attacking villages and such attacks intensify during August and September when corn and other fruits start ripening in the villages. |
