Jammu, aug 13: Relaxation offered to city in strict curfew restrictions that continued for last three days had to be withdrawn prematurely as protestors appeared at several places, threatening to vitiate peace even as three hours relaxation in the south district of the city passed off peacefully with residents turning out in large numbers to shop for essentials on Tuesday. Protestors resorted to stone pelting in old city at Kanak Mandi area. Some miscreants also made bid to set a business establishment on fire near Shagun Palace near Sarwal however, the same was foiled by security force. Soon after the incident, authorities clamped curfew in North area of Jammu city, withdrawing the announced relaxation. Meanwhile, hinting at tougher days ahead, Jammu chamber of commerce and industry JCCI extended the Bandh call for another 48 hours, demanding written assurance from the government regarding compensation of 2 lakhs to each of those whose business establishments had been set ablaze in Kishtwar violence. The call has been supported by BJP, VHP and the transporters' unions. "The CCIJ is demanding written assurance from the government that the compensation will be given as per the evaluation of the loss to the people who have lost their shops in the clashes", said Secretary of CCIJ Deepak. In another development, Police today confined VHP State Chief Rama Kant Dubey and detained its General Secretary Dr Saham Ji Gupta.Gupta who was later set free by Nowabad police in the evening. Satwari police arrested two ladies for allegedly spreading communal hatred. SHO Satwari Kamaal Hassan when contacted said that two ladies namely Antu Kotwal wife of Amarjeet Singh of Janipur and Parvesh Kumari wife of Ashwani Kumar of Gurdaspur were arrested in Belicharana when they were spreading communal hatred . They were booked under section 153 A RPC and sent to women cell. Meanwhile, Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Shantmanu said, "It was incident free day in Jammu, no violence was reported since morning, curfew relaxation was given for three hours in Jammu south, but the curfew will be continued." |
