Early Times Report

jammu, Sep 1: Kashmiri Pandits staged a protest demonstration here today and submitted a memorandum at Raj Bhawan demanding immediate passage of Kashmiri Hindu Shrines Bill lying with select committee of State Assembly.
The demonstrations started from KP Sabha Ambphalla this morning and over 300 activists including some prominent community leaders representing various generations participated. The protestors raising slogans demanded passage of the Bill in the coming session of the Assembly.
The protestors with placards in their hands warned against any dilution in the Bill and demanded that all Hindu religious places in Kashmir be brought under the purview of the Bill. They said that the Pandits will not tolerate any dilution in the Bill as entire community is unanimous on its passage in the form as it was presented.
They said the constant delay in the Bill has generated a lot of resentment among the community as maximum shrines and temples are in dilapidated condition while many of them have been damaged during the turmoil by anti social and anti national elements. The protestors accused the Government of deliberately delaying the Bill giving a field to land mafia and anti national elements in valley in grabbing the land belonging to shrines and religious places in Valley. The protestors said that many shrines have been grabbed by the land mafia in connivance with authorities and so-called temple management committees. They said that land records are being changed by Revenue Department at various places and some shrines have even not been included in the record. Terming it a cause of concern they said the Government should fulfill its commitments and pass the Bill in the same form as it is demanded by the community. The demonstration was held under the banner of Pt Prem Nath Bhat Memorial Trust which is a nodal agency for leading the struggle for passage of the Bill. The KP leaders who addressed the demonstration including Dr K L Choudhary, a prominent physician and community leader, Ashwani Chrungoo, president PK, Dr R L Bhat, senior vice president Vichar Manch, H L Bhat, general secretary, JKVM, Kissu, Virender Raina, spokesperson KP Forum and various other community leaders.
