| Waterless since independence, Panchayat Ghatti cries over admn's foul play | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
Kathua, Oct 25: AEE, PHE Kathua in a bid to hide the negligence of the department in case of water crisis to many villages of Panchayat Ghatti which has been sustaining since long has put the lives of villagers into jeopardy.
When ET correspondent questioned the AEE, PHE Gopal Sharma on this issue, he refused to say anything. But the fact is that after more than six decades of independence of India, hundreds of families of villages of Panchayat Ghatti namely Palail, Katode, Dauylata, Channiredi, Narotu, and Tared are still forced to be deprived of the facility of water and road connectivity as it is the consequences of high insensitivity of the state government and administration towards its duty to provide the services to the people, said the villagers.
They said these villages are reeling under an unprecedented proper road connectivity crisis and acute shortage of drinking water, due to which these villages have been the acute shortage of potable water since 1947 till date and demanded the PHE minister should visit here to assess their sufferings.
In response to a request made by the earlier MP Ch Lal Singh the PHE has decided to bail out the water crisis-hit region by supplying potable water through water tank, once in a week people said. Resenting residents Man Singh, Romal Singh, Bhagwan Singh, and Swaran Singh pointed out that until little over decade ago a tube well was constructed particular for the residents of Palail but the benefits of this tube well was given to the Dongue and Ghatti village by keeping the residents of village Palail away from the water facilities who are still living in a worse condition without water. People said the government should provide drinking water facility to these most backward villages which is still a dream for villagers. They said that only one tank per week is engaged in this far-flung village Palail and the families have to suffer without water, the children cannot take bath, animals are often forced to remain thirsty while the most of the families are farmers by profession and other villages are also have same story of difficulties and hardships due to the lack of water facilities. We people have put this matter into the notice of district administration several times but nothing have been done except engaging water tanker which cannot meet out the shortage of water requirement. The people have to cover long distance which is more than 4 kilometers at high altitude in this hilly area with facing the threat of wild animals also in search of water daily which causes severe difficulties and hardships to we people while the tube well was sanctioned on the name of Palail but is delivering the water facility to only Ghatti and Dongue which is not only injustice but also an assault on the rights of we people, because this tube well was established with a motive to deliver the drinking water for the more than half dozen villages of Panchayat Ghatti, said the aggrieved villagers .
They said the major reason behind the injustice is political uncertainty and degraded politics which has failed and exposed the hidden vote greed of the politicians due to which they were forced to keep away from the water facilities.
It is urged to the state government and district administration to investigate the Palail water project worth crore and find out the true causes for causing the unnecessary harassment and hardships to the people of the areas by crushing the right of Palail villagers from taking the water facility from water tube well which is already being sanctioned for Palail. |
