| Installation of CCTV's in Jammu towns hangs in PHQ | | | Early Times Report KISHTWAR, Oct 25: Even though the Government of Jammu and Kashmir cleared installation of CCTV's in major towns and cities of Jammu province some two years back, the project remains confined to Police headquarter files. Police sources said the delay in installation of CCTV's in many towns of the Jammu province is lingering on due to delay in release of an amount of Rs. 50 lacs by the PHQ. They added that the department has already purchased the CCTV's and also installed the towers but the delay was caused due the money demanded by the Power Development Department (PDD) as equipment charges used for providing electric connections to the towers. The sources said that in Kishtwar, PDD has demanded an amount of approximately Rs. 3.50 lacs as installation charges. The sources added that Kishtwar police have taken up the issue of the release of said amount with the senior police officials. The release is awaiting approval of the PHQ, they said. "IGP Jammu after receiving requisition of funds from other Districts of Jammu province wrote a letter to PHQ for sanctioning of funds and the same has not been released yet," said a senior police officer in Jammu. The sources added that once the PHQ release the funds, the installation of CCTV's in all major towns and cities of Jammu province will be put on track. It is pertinent to mention here that Government has accorded sanction to the CCTV project so as to keep an eye on anti- national and anti- social elements, besides on terror related activities. But the delay in implementation of this project has taken a tool in Kishtwar town which witnessed worst ever communal clashes on August 9 this year. In case the CCTV's were in place, the culprits involved in Kishtwar violence could have been easily identified and punished. |
