Jammu, Oct 25: Disappointed over the conduct of the government in not letting the Temple Bill get passed in the just concluded autumn session of Assembly, Prem Nath Bhat Memorial Trust, the nodal organization spearheading the cause for years has not given up despite NC led coalition backtracking from its own assurances on making a law which would ensure protection of Hindu religious places in Kashmir in particular and provide such cover to temples and shrines across the state. In its relentless efforts , the Trust members even after sensing vested interests sabotaging the early passage , are keen and optimistic their struggle would yield positive results. Not succumbing to delaying tactics encouraged so by the vested interests whether inside political system or at the apolitical level, PNBT convened a fresh meeting the other day to take stock of the developments that virtually blocked the passage of the Kashmiri Hindu temples and shrines bill. Confident of fighting back every hurdle, the Trust, however, has reminded the government that the delay of every single day is resulting in huge loss of the religious properties both due to neglect as well as the land grabbers encroaching upon the shrine lands in Kashmir. Agile and alert on what has been happening on the ground situation in Kashmir, the members also warned the government that it would be responsible for the loss of the shrines and encroachment upon the properties due to the envisaged Shrine Board not being formed.
In the meeting the Trust removed the confusion sought to be created with the Kashmiri-nonKashmiri Hindus and made it clear that all Hindus of kashmir were equally eligible to be voters and members under the bill, irrespective of caste and surname. Pertinent to mention is that few days before the Assmebly session began and it was given to understand that Select committee would submit its report to House , a step which would have ensured passage in the session that ensued, a deliberate hue and cry was created from certain quarters over some aspects , which were only small issues . However, Select committee having senior legislators and political dignitaries on board called a meeting inviting representatives from such quarters who only augmented the confusion, on account of which the last meeting of the select committee remained inconclusive. In order to dispel what it feels apprehensions from certain quarters, the Trust also clarified in the meeting that the bill would strengthen the elected committees looking after the individual shrines. The bill would ensure that nobody's livelihood is affected and that the elected committee looking after different temples would be strengthened, as the purpose of the bill is to establish mechanism for elected management committees on a regular basis in a democratic and transparent manner.
