| BRO hijacks Katra Reasi Road projects for a decade | | Political leadership, Administration fail to rein in agency | | Sarfarosh JAMMU, Oct 25: People of Reasi have been pushed to the wall by the pressing inconvenience caused to them for close to a decade due to un ending work of construction of stretch of road on Katra- Reasi road. A small stretch of road, almost 15 kms from Baba Dhansar to Reasi is under construction since last seven to 10 years, whereas a private company engaged in the four lanning of Jammu -Udhampur National Highway is working at exemplary speed. BRO (Border Road Organization) is deputed to furnish Katra-Reasi project from Baba-Dhansar to Barandari road in Reasi, but it seems that BRO authorities are sleeping over the issue. In spite of May 2013 deadline given to BRO authorities by Iqbal Khandey Chief Secretary, the BRO officials paid no heed and continued work at snail's pace prolonging inconvenience to public. People living in the adjoining hamlets have been fed up with the indifference of BRO towards inconvenience to the people who are forced to ply their vehicles on under constructed roads, causing extensive damages to them. Deputy Commissioner Dr. Shahid Iqbal Chowdhary had even filed a PIL against the authorities in public interest, but it seems it has turned to deaf ears. BRO authorities do not seem interested in speeding up the work instead they have abandoned the ongoing work altogether. It is pertinent to put on record that the efforts and administrative initiatives taken by Deputy Commissioner Reasi, Divisional Commissioner Jammu and Chief Secretary of the J&K State have fallen short of inducing any sense of urgency within BRO authorities who have stayed inert to gross public outcry. As a result lakhs of people travelling from all parts of the country to Shiv Khori Shrine via Katra Reasi Road are suffering on account of defunct administration, in-sensitive politicians of Katra and Reasi who have failed to prevail upon BRO and could not get the road work which is lingering on for the last 10 years completed. |
