| Department of Fisheries organises awareness camp | | | Jammu, Nov 16: An awareness camp cum Kissan mela was organised under the centrally sponsored scheme, Support to State Extension Reforms at ornamental Fish Farm Doomi. According to press release, the purpose of kissan mela was to popularise fish farming and to educate the fish farmers and the public about the various welfare schemes of the department. The mela was attended by a large No. of fish farmers, Sarpanches and panches from the different blocks of the district Jammu. Mohd.Qasim Lone, Joint Director Fisheries Projects Jammu who was the chief guest on the occasion while interacting with the participants stressed that the fish farming is generating a lot of opportunities for uplifting the rural economy besides providing high quality protein to the masses and will reduce the gap between the fish supply and demand. He also stressed the unemployed youth to establish the fish rearing unit as a source of self employment. The Schemes have come up in a big way and the farmers are obtaining a handsome return from their units. The units established in the private sector are being provided quality seed and technical know-how by the department and it was informed that a 121 units of carp ponds covering a water area of about 12 hactares has been established in the different blocks of Jammu district. ADF stressed upon the fish farmers to adopt the integrated fish farming and the latest technologies of the fish farming to enhance the output and economic efficiency. |
