| CM visited Kishtwar 4 months after clashes | | Azad versus Omar | | Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 16: Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad had rebuffed Chief Minister Omar Abdullah by visiting Kishtwar, about four-month after it witnessed communal clashes, and generating confidence of both the communities in maintaining peace. Azad, who had virtually single-handedly ensured maximum seats from erstwhile Doda district, didn't speak rhetoric but visited families of both the communities. He didn't take any sides, had meals with members of both the communities and most importantly said it should not be construed that communal clashes were engineered with any eye on Assembly elections by any political party. The Chief Minister had not visited Kishtwar till now. And in contrast, he had incited communal clashes with his words and action. Omar probably became the first Chief Minister when he had said that one Hindu and two Muslims were killed in clashes. As a head of the State, CM can't issue such a reckless statement. The statement slightly evoked criticism from all quarters. Omar Abdullah even tried to further polarize the situation by not allowing leader of the BJP to visit Kishtwar and also didn't allow PDP president Mehbooba Mufti. He even blamed the parties for inciting violence. The CM even was critical of the media on its reporting of the violence and had said that so many editorial and comments are not written when incidents of such nature happen in other parts of the country. Azad was, however, more rational on the media and had said J&K is probably the only State in the country which is known internationally and if any incident happens here then it's bound to evoke attention of the media. Former Chief Minister didn't in his statement made any allegations against the political parties and rather was rational and focused. Azad by showing concern over slow economic development and particularly slow pace in completing Bhaderwah-Chamba road had also rebuffed claims of the Omar Abdullah headed Government of bringing about development. |
