| Is hurting individuals must to impress voters, win elections? asks ANC | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 16: Awami National Conference has urged political parties to maintain decency and civility in the lead-up to the 2014 General Elections maintaining that to launch a personal attack on a particular person by using indecent language is unacceptable. Political leaders should maintain some balance and be civilized. Against the backdrop of political parties unrelenting attack against their rivals, ANC has expressed serious concern over unparliamentarily language being used in political rallies. Issuing a statement in Jammu ANC, Provincial president, Gian Singh said that use of "bad" language against political rivals did not bring any dignity to political parties using it. Adding further Singh said , "We should criticize the opposition parties and their policies with which we do not agree. But in this regard, we have to distinguish ourselves, especially from those leaders use bad language against other party leaders. He said political leaders should refrain from using words which are "insulting" and are against the "dignity" of the party. Condemning the use of unpleasant language in political rallies, Singh said that to achieve the goal, no party should follow the route of cheap publicity in the forthcoming elections to the state assemblies and the general elections. People who regularly insult others or use language widely considered to be inappropriate suffer tremendous damage to their reputation. They have fewer friends, contacts and business opportunities than they would otherwise. If they are public figures, they face severe criticism in the media and elsewhere, Singh added. We notice that debates can occasionally get quite heated. For some, it can be seen as a source of entertainment, but there needs to be limits. Politicians must maintain a certain level of professionalism and give the appearance that they're taking the important issues seriously. |
