Pahari speaking people not to support coalition in Assembly polls

Rajouri, Nov 17: A meeting of delegates from various organisations of Pahari speaking people was held at Dhangri in Rajouri district today under the president ship of Tilak Raj Sharma.Pahari speaking community is fighting for the last many years to get ST status for their community under the umbrella of JK cultural and Welfare Forum (JKCWF).JK Pahari People Movement(JKPPM), Pahari Action Committee (PAC),Pahari youth and students organization(PY&SO) are also extending their full support to JKCWF in its struggle .On November,5 Pahari people had held protests at tehsil levels in favor of their demands and had presented memorandums to DDC, tehsildars to be forwarded to the Union and State governments. Shahbaz Khan and Vijay Kochar executive chairman and general secretary JKPPM were also present in the meeting and addressed the delegates.
Leaders of Pahari speaking community under different banners have criticized the successive Union and State governments for not granting Schedule Tribe status to their community even despite J&K High Court directions to implement the state cabinet decision No159/of/1989/dt 8/8/1989 .In its decision state Cabinet had passed a resolution with full majority to grant ST statusto seven sub-casts and according to Pahari leaders, Pahri community was at number 1 in the list.Besides Shabaz Khan and Vijay Kochar all other other Pahari leaders said that any further delay in granting the status to the community will further create trouble in the state.
"Economic disparities and economic discrimination have ever been the major factor in the State which resulted in anti state anti-national activities on the provocation of anti India elements and our youth may fell prey to these elements" said these leaders. These leaders appealed to the people of Pahari Community to be united to launch a united struggle under an umbrella organization of Jammu Kashmir Pahari Cultural and Welfare Forum.
They also appealed to Pahari politicians to leave there political affiliation for the cause of the community in getting the ST status for the community before next Assembly elections. These leaders further said that Paharis who have faced three wars with Pakistan, 30 years long insurgency and even the impact of 2005 earth quake; as most of the border belt is being dominated by them, but they have been denied there right. Terming the 1947 partition as conspiracy to divide Pahari community of the state, Shahbaz Khan, JKPPM leader said that 70 percent of Paharis remained on other side of LoC leaving the 30 percent in Jammu & Kashmir. He said that Justice Sageer Commission and Centre Interlocutors have also projected the demand of Pahari community by recommending ST status for Pahari community, but again the things remain unchanged.
