Most political heavyweights likely to book ticket to Delhi
Prelude to elections 2014

Srinagar, Nov 17: Many a political heavyweights of the state may be looking to board bus to Delhi ahead of 2014 Assembly elections in the state.
If everything remains smooth within the major political parties, National Conference, Congress and People’s Democratic Party for next few months, the top leaders of all the parties are likely to test their luck first in Lok Sabha elections due early next year.
With Ghulam Nabi Azad making his intentions clear that he is no more interested to become the Chief Minister of the state for the second time, it is now abundantly comprehensible that like PDP president, Mehbooba Mufti, former Deputy Chief Minister, Muzaffer Hussain Baigh and Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, the former Chief Minister too is going to fight Lok Sabha elections scheduled to be held in April/May next year. The only thing which is not clear yet is whether the Union Minister for New and renewable Energy and National Conference President, Dr. Farooq Abdullah is contesting the elections or not while on the other hand PDP Patron and former Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed will be the only senior most politician contesting the Assembly elections directly from Anantnag Assembly segment in 2014.
Azad during his just concluded extensive tour of the Doda and Kishtwar district has hinted at contesting the Lok Sabha elections from Udhampur-Doda constituency which is presently represented by Choudhary Lal Singh of the Congress party.
Though it may not be so easy for Choudhary Lal Singh to register victory from that constituency owing to the emergence of PDP in the erstwhile Doda district, however, Azad's candidature would certainly give an edge to the Congress party.
It is believed that PDP's emergence in the muslim dominated areas of the earstwhile Doda district and division of the Muslim votes between NC, Congress and PDP would benefit the right wing BJP in the constituency, however, the chances of Azad's election from the constituency are more if NC and Congress fight the elections in alliance.
It is also believed that Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has been working overnight to garner the support of cross sections of society in the Doda and Kishtwar District but sources within NC told Early Times that the party will support the candidature of Azad and will not field any candidate against him irrespective of whether there is pre-poll alliance between the two parties or not.
A senior Congress leader of the region wishing anonymity told Early Times that during his extensive tour of the these areas, Azad has hinted at contesting the Lok Sabha elections from that constituency. Observers, however, believe that Narendra Modi's anoinment as PM candidate has infused new blood in BJP and the real challenge for Azad will be from that party.
However, what is more interesting is the fact that all the political heavy weights barring Mufti are all set to contest the Lok Sabha elections and things are more clear now that Mufti and Farooq will be the Chief Ministerial candidates of PDP and NC while Congress will fight the assembly elections under the leadership of Professor Saifuddin Soz.
