Doda, Nov 17: Raising concern over lacunae in Jammu and Kashmir Juvenile Justice Act, the Inner Call, Forum for Evolution, Development and Awareness stressed for immediate proper implementation of the Act to ensure protection of the rights of the juveniles. Addressing media persons, spokesperson of the Inner Call, Inam Un Nabi said that there was immediate need to implement the Act as it could provide protection, security and rehabilitation to the children in the state. Further, the 'safety net' of juvenile justice system acts like an umbrella and prevents very young lives from getting blighted forever. "There is no Juvenile Justice Board and Child Rights Commission in Jammu and Kashmir and minors are trialed in normal courts, sometimes as adults, in contravention with India's national laws and international obligations," he said. Secretary, The Inner Call, Affan Yesvi said that the non-seriousness of the State government can be gauged from the fact that while it passed ordinance last year and this year in the month of April the Governor gave the consent to make it a law, it is yet to be implemented fully because of non availability of rules Further, he said that the social activists and civil society of the state need to come forward on a single platform to pressurise the state government for its implementation. |
