| Pesticide Industries promoting pollution, no check by authorities | | | NEERAJ BADYAL
Samba, Nov 17: Dozens of pesticide industries including paint and pharmaceutical units are violating the norms of pollution resulting the air and water pollution raised in Samba town and many local residents have been facing the ill effect of pollution which is raised by these pesticide units. On Increasing voice against increasing pollution, the team of expert scientists and doctors collected the air, water and soil pollution and after that detailed report will be submitted to house as well as state government. It is pertinent to mention here that some five years ago around 170 peasant families lost their ancestral vegetable crop farming due to heavy pollution promoted by some 17 pesticide units which are situated in same cluster of 1 kilometer radius surrounding Basanter river. Moreover the poisonous polluted water of these pesticide units thrown in drains dissolves in the water of Basanter river, which is harmful for cattle and fields of farmers. Local citizens and member of civil society Adv. Subash Singh, Raj Kumar, Karan Singh, Joginder Singh, Ramesh Sharma, Chanchal Bhatti, PYC president samba constituency Vinod Kumar,sarpanch Shivram, sarpanch said that many states including Delhi has removed pesticide units from their respective area as these units are promoting pollution. People said that neither pollution department nor the Industries department are taking hard steps to stop pesticide units from violating the norms resulting in industries playing with the lives of local citizens of Samba. Local people warned that the government constituted committees is mere eye wash, if these pesticide industries are not shifted from Samba, they have to come on road and logde a protest against government. |
