Sports Reporter JAMMU, Nov 17: The 12th State Open Fencing Championship, organised by J&K amateur Fencing Association, got underway at Government Degree College Billawar campus in district Kathua today. The three-day competition was declared open by Principal of host College, Dr B L Gupta while Divisional Forest Officer, Billawar, Mohinder Gupta presided. Former UNO Advisor, Dr Ram Lal Upadhaya was guest of honour. Meanwhile, as per a handout issued here today, over 200 fencers, including 50 girls, are taking part in this competition to be held in different age groups of Sabre, Epee and Foil. A host of fencers of national and international repute shall also be taking part in this competition. They are Major Bikram Singh Jamwal, Rashid Ahmed of J&K Police, Sanjeev Suri, Ujwal Gupta, Ranchan Sabarwal, Richa Sabarwal, Vishal Thapar, Vilas Radotra, Koushal Sharma and Sagar Sahi. This event is being conducted by State Sports Council fencing coach, Chottu Lal, who will be assisted by Shivani Hans and Dimple Thapa. Earlier, the opening day witnessed competition in under-12 age category. In this category, Mayank Sharma of Kathua beat Naman Kumar of Jammu for the first place. Third place was shared by Balbir Singh of Ramban and Poorvik Suri of Jammu. |
