25th J&K Jr Volleyball C’ship concludes

AKHNOOR, Nov 23: The 25th J&K State Junior Volleyball Championship, which was played at the Government Higher Secondary School Akhnoor's playground from 21st and concluded today. As many as 17 teams, (12 boys and 5 girls) from across the State participated in this State level annual event which was organized by the J&K State Volleyball Association in collaboration with the J&K Sports Council.
Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control, Sham Lal Sharma, who was chief guest at the concluding ceremony, distributed prizes amongst the players and trophies among the winning teams.
In the boys' group, the final match was played between Jammu and Poonch teams in which Jammu beats Poonch by 3-1 points. The final score was 23-25, 28-26, 25-22 and 29-27. In the girls' group, Samba beats Jammu by 3-0 points and final score was 25-18, 25-22 and 25-16.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister hailed the initiative of the organizers for hosting this event in the historic town of Akhnoor and said that this will go a long way in encouraging the budding players from the area. He stressed the need for organizing more such events in Akhnoor and its adjoining areas to promote the sports activities. He said the State Government has been giving focused attention to strengthen the sports infrastructure in every nook and corner of the State for attracting more and more youth towards the sports to channelize their energy in positive direction.
He congratulated the wining' teams and wished them to maintain the triumph at the national level and bring laurel for the State. He asked the players to keep the sports spirits high with their hard work and discipline.
Prominent among those present on the occasion included, President J&K State Volleyball Association (JKSVA), Raj Daluja, General Secretary, Kuldeep Magotra, Chairman Selection Committee, R.C.Sharma, Organizing Secretary, Raman Gupta, large number of sports lovers and students from different parts of Akhnoor.

KC Public School celebrates 'KIDDO FEST' 2013

Jammu, Nov 23: Children symbolize innocence, divinity, unconditional love, vigour, vitality and energy. Invocating this thought, K.C. Public School organized a 'Kiddo Fest' of the Kindergarten section on Saturday, 23r Nov, 13. Dr. Poonam Choudhary, Director, Centre for Studies in Museology and Heritage, University'of Jammu, was the Chief Guest on the occasion.
Indeed the Junior School looked resplendent in all its glory. The Principal, Amarendra Kumar Mishra in his brief address to the spectators, not only welcomed everyone warmly but also made some thought provoking statements which held them captive for some time. He hoped the parents would appreciate the efforts of the little angels and their mother teachers.
In the natural sequence of events, the welcome song, dance displayed delightfully by the children of Pravesh Vatika in the beginning set a tone to the entire show. The mass P.T. 'Follow the Directions' came next followed by a 'Colorful Display'. The fantastic performances, the sheer excitement, laughter and giggle of the young ones was very endearing and their dance movements cute. The compeering conducted with aplomb and confidence made everyone sit up and notice. The hard work and dedication of the children was indeed praiseworthy. The cheer chants sung in unison by U.K.G-C children received a thunderous applause of the parents. The fun races added a certain thrill to the entire programme.


JK Handball Team lifts All India "Raizada Perhald Bali" Gold Cup
Sports activities gaining momentum in State: Jora

JAMMU, Nov 23: The Jammu and Kashmir Handball Team has lifted first All India "Raizada Perhald Bali" Gold Cup defeating Delhi team here today.
The tournament was organised by All India Handball Federation in memory of the renowned international handball player from Jammu Raizada Perhald Bali , and was played at Mini sports Stadium Parade this afternoon. As many as 13 teams across the country participated in the tournament..
Minister for Urban development and Urban local Bodies Nawang Rigzin Jora was the chief guest on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering Jora said that the government is keen to boost the sports activities in the state, adding that due to endeavours of the present government, sports culture is getting momentum in every nook and corner of the state. He said that it is a good sign that more and more youth are participating in sports activities.
The Minister said that state has ample sports potential for which the government has taken various initiatives to exploit it. He said the government will provide ever assistance to those groups who will come forward for boosting the sports activities in the state. He said various centrally and state sponsored schemes are under implementation for promotion of sports activities in the State.
Jora lauded the initiatives of Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council for organising national level tournaments in the state.
Earlier, the students of government Girls Higher Secondary School Rehari , presented colourful cultural programme .
Later the minister distributed trophies to the winners.
Besides Vice President, All India Handball Federation Kirran Wattal, Secretary General S.M. Bali General Secretary J&K Football Federation Ashwani Raina, International Handball players and large number of sports lovers were present on the occasion.


Tender Toes Pre-School organizes Karate Competitionet report
Jammu, Nov 23: “Tender Toes Pre School” of Trikuta Nagar, Jammu organised Karate Competition in the school premises, in which a large number of Karate students of Tender Toes Pre School participated in colour belt test (Grading Test). School spokesperson said that the grading test was held at school premises on the other day while final test was conducted by renowned Sensei Naresh Chander (Fifth degree black belt) Technical Director of GTKI (J&K) today.
Spokesperson stated tiny tots of school trained in martial arts by Dinesh Kumar (3rd Degree Black Belt) who got their belt grading upgraded included namely as Zinnat Fatima, Haider, Shreya Chib, Pankhul Gupta, Areeba Malik, Vivaswat Mahajan, Shruti Sharma, Anant Chadyal and Sarah Verma.
The statement added Principal of the school Mrs Renu Bhasin appreciated the performance of participants, guests and dignitaries present during the competition.



Host J&K wins NZ Sport Climbing C’ship

JAMMU, Nov 23: Host Jammu and Kashmir shined with Champions' Trophy in the 1st Sub Junior North Zone Sport Climbing Championship held at Sprawling Buds School, Chinore in Bantalab, here.
In a close contest with Punjab and Haryana, J&K secured highest 13 points to claim the championship. Punjab, with six points and Haryana (five) remained second and third respectively.
Haryana climbers, however, swept the medals tally in the Mini group claiming 10 points against one each in favour of J&K and Delhi. Other participating teams from Uttar Pradesh and Chandigarh could not do well.
While national champion, Shivpreet Pannu of Punjab gave Punjab a head start by winning both the gold medals in Lead and Speed Climbing in the Sub Junior girls category, those J&K Climbers, Shivani and Shilpa performed well to clinch second and third positions in Lead and Speed.
Meanwhile, in the Sub Junior boys category, Govind, a national bronze medalist and Sahil Kumar, both of Haryana won gold and bronze medals respectively in Lead event and claimed four points. Mrityunjay Sharma of J&K secured silver to add to the J&K's points tally.
On third and last day of the competition, the darling of the crowd, however, turned out to be Mrityunjay Sharma of J&K, who climbed the 40ft high fibre glass wall at neck breaking speed in 9.86 seconds to win gold medal in Speed climbing thus helped the hosts claim the Champions' trophy. Aman Dogra, another good climber of J&K further increased J&K' medal tally by securing a silver medal by climbing the wall in 12 seconds. The bronze medal went to Prem Kumar of Haryana, who took 14.64 seconds to reach the top.
However, Haryana came back strongly in the Mini category to win two gold and an equal number of silver medals to clinch the Championship trophy. Whereas Veena Rawat and Komal Rawat, both of Haryana bagged the gold and silver medal in the Mini girls' category, Prem Kumar and Sahil Kumar of Haryana secured first two positions in the boys group. The bronze medals in this category went to Rashi Sachdeva of Delhi and Ajaydeep Singh of J&K.
In all, about 200 climbers from various North Zone states participated in this three-day championship, organized by Mountaineering Association of J&K under the auspices of Indian Mountaineering Association North Zone Committee and sponsored by J&K State Sports Council.
In the finals and valedictory function, Principal Secretary Planning and Development, J&K, BR Sharma was the chief guest who gave away cash prizes amounting to Rs.30,500 to the winners. Special prizes were also presented to Chairman, IMF North Zone Committee, S. Bhattacharjee, National Judges, Mitra Ghosh of Delhi and Shawetica Khajuria, Chief Route Setter, Anil Bhelwal of Nainital, Chief Belayer, Ganesh Singh of Delhi and Principal, Sprawling Buds School, Puja Datta.



Kendriya Vidyalaya Uri celebrates Annual Sports Day

URI, Nov 23: Kendriya Vidyalaya Uri celebrated its Annual Sports Day on 20th November 2013 in the NHPC playground with a grand Opening Ceremony followed by Athletic Events and Prize Distribution function. Mr. N.S. Parmeshwaran, General Manager, Uri Power Station was the chief guest on the occasion. The Principal Mrs. Jeena.T.V.welcomed the chief guest and the guests of honour Parmeshwaran and Arvind Chauhan, Commanding Officer, CISF. Master Tushar Tyagi, school captain extended formal welcome to all. A rhythmic march-past was presented by the four houses Shivaji, Tagore,Ashoka and Raman, saluting the chief guest.The School Sports Captain SaadatManzoorled the Oath Taking Ceremony . The Cultural Programme that followed was a unique blend of music and movement. The students,staff and the guests participated in the events with great zeal and sportsmanship. Prizes were distributed to the winners by the Chief Guest. He congratulated the staff and the students for their enthusiastic participation and abiding sportsman spirit.
