| PDD close offices after consumers demand transformer | | High voltage drama of PDD! | | Saahil Suhail ANANTNAG, Nov 23: The PDD showed its helplessness by closing the office today when agitated people of Anantnag town demanded immediate repair of their damaged transformer. Highly placed sources said that Executive Engineer Anantnag PDD closed his office in the morning and directed others to do the same. They said that officers ringed few local media reporters and requested them to highlight their protest over what he called highhandness of the consumers who were reportedly accompanied by National Conference activist Iftikar Ahmad Kadoo. Minutes after, media covered the protest, officials and employees closed the main gate and visiting consumers were asked that the department is on strike. Sources said that during the rest of the day, officials neither approached the police nor the administration and had a nice time inside the office premises. Locals said that 250KV transformer feeding the main town of Anantnag including Reshi Mohalla got damaged before a couple of days and after that besides repeated requests department hasn't overhauled it or installed another one. "This is a metered area and we are paying to the department according to the norms laid down by them. Department has agreement with us that they will provide uninterrupted power supply," aggrieved, Mudasir Ahmad told ET. Meanwhile, scores of consumers arrived at the main gate but returned disappointed. "They (PDD) have sent a hefty bill to me and today I left work just to redress my problem but the gate was closed and now I have to visit on Monday the same office," sixty-year-old Mohmmad Shaban said. Repeated attempts to contact SE PDD failed. |
