Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 23 : Digging work on the circular road puts additional traffic burden on the old city. Getting stuck in the traffic for hours together becomes daily routine for the residents of the Panjtirthi after darbar shifted to Jammu. The National Buildings Construction Corporation Ltd. (NBCC) is laying sewerage pipes and only two wheelers are allowed to move on the road. No four wheelers, either commercial or personal vehicles are allowed on the road which has brought life to a standstill in the area. To avoid rush in the old city, people coming take circular road route, which connect Tawi Bridge-Gujjar Nagar-DC Office-Panjtirthi -Sidhra and National highway to Srinagar but now when the road has been closed for traffic, these people have to face the long traffic jam in Jammu City, especially in the old City and Mubarak Mandi road. The NBCC has taken this work at the festival time and especially when Darbar (Secretariat and other state government offices) came to Jammu."It should not be started at this point of time; government should have taken the step by taking all aspects into consideration. But it seems that no efforts have been made by the administration and the government to give people of Jammu a relief," Rajan Bali, a resident of Panjtirthi. "We daily get stuck in the traffic jam at Mubarak Mandi, Jain Bazar and Panjtirthi road, especially after the Darbar move, these jams have become daily routine of our life," he added. "I have to come from Nagrota for my duties at Bahu Plaza. I have been using circular road to get easy passage in the city but since the work has been started on this stretch, I have to take long route from Sidhra bypass," said Sandeep Sharma, a resident of Nagrota. Most of the Kashmiri pandit community people living in Jagti also take the same route but now they are also facing problem since the digging started.Similar reports have poured in from other parts of the city especially Chand Nagar where the entire road has been dug by the ERA people. Last year also, this particular road was dug up by ERA. The road was laid but now this year again, the road has been dug and people of Jammu are facing problems. Manmohan Singh, Senior Superintendent of Police (Traffic) said, "NBCC has taken permission from us to block circular road for ten days, but the work continues and we have refused more time. Now they have assured us that it will be done within three to four days.""The load of traffic on other rods is obvious, but the road will be restored soon," he added. |
