| Chief Engineer PHE asks officers to submit report within 3 days | | Contaminated Water Supply in old city | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Nov 23: Taking cognizance of a complaint alleging contaminated water supply in Old City areas received through Chief Minister's Grievance Cell, the Chief Engineer (CE), Public Health Engineering Jammu vide his office order no No: PHEJPSGC 1158889 dated: 22/11/2013 has sought a report from the Executive Engineer, PHE City Division 1, Jammu within three days. The CE has also asked the officer to take necessary action at an earliest on the complaint. Earlier, on 12th of this month a Complaint in the Chief Minister's Grievance cell (no. 44312) was made by RTI activist Raman Sharma on behalf of inhabitants of Lower Mast Garh, Old city, Jammu. In the complaint, it is being alleged that the drinking water supplied by the Public Health Engineering through water pipes is not worth for human drinking and the water is absolutely contaminated having pungent smell and lot of impurities. The complainant has also blamed the Public Health Engineering department for being so careless that none of its officer or official ever visited the locality and collected the water sample for the lab test which is the legal duty of the department. Giving further details, Raman informed that this is not only inhumane but also criminal negligence on the part of PHE department that now polluted drinking water is supplied to the citizens. The local inhabitants has demanded an impartial probe from the government to find out the reason and to fix responsibilities on the erring officers for not conducting lab test of samples of drinking water and have warned that if the water quality does not improve they would adopt the path of agitation. |
