| PDP express concern over exploitation of rice growers | | |
Early Times Report
KATHUA, Nov 29: PDP today raised the issue of exploitation of innocent rice growers of Kathua region and of them being deprived of actual profit of their produce due to the interference of middle man and private rice traders. PDP leader of Kathua Anil Singh said that the rice growers of Kathua region are a worried lot these days. Though they are expecting a bumper crop this season, they apprehend that there will be no buyers for their crop as there is no agriculture marketing system in the state. He said that there is no effective and permanent paddy procurement system which can give direct benefit to farmers. Harvesting season is over and the beginning of wheat sowing session farmers are concerned that they were forced to sell their produce directly to mill owners or to the agents, who can deprive them of profit. And the produce could not get the genuine price as there is no agriculture marketing system in the state and the state government does not lift the produce. Mr. Singh said that "Agriculture markets are the need of the hour and the state government should take immediate steps in this direction so that our farmers could be directly benefited and emancipated from the clutches of middle man and agents.
