Sports Reporter JAMMU, Nov 29: Jammu and Kashmir Police clinched the overall championship trophy securing highest points in the day-long 6th Senior State Indian Style Wrestling Championship, organised by J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association and sponsored by State Sports Council at Dewan Mandir Akhara, here. To claim the overall trophy, J&K Police obtained maximum 23 points. The overall runners-up trophy went to Jammu district with 16 points. In all, 54 wrestlers from all over the state contested for the top honours in different weight categories. The final bouts officiated by NIS qualified coach, Mulkh Raj Sharma, Kulbir Singh, Govind Singh and Prem Kumar. Director General, Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS), Navin Aggarwal was chief guest, who gave away overall championship trophies and other individual medals and certificates. President of J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association, Shiv Kumar Sharma presided over the function while general secretary of J&K Olympics Association, Prof Ashutosh Sharma was guest of honour. Prominent among others present were Prem Choudhary, Inderjeet Khajuria, Prithvi Raj Sharma, Bansi Lal Tidyal, Mulkh Raj Sharma, Virender Sharma, Om Parkash Verma, Kulbir Singh, Sheikh Mohd Shafi, Prem Kumar, Govind Singh, Madan Lal, Om Parkash Sharma, Krishan Singh (both wrestling coaches of J&K Police), Raj Kumar, Swarn Singh, Kuldeep Singh, Bansi Lal and Murli Dhar (Munna). Wushu trials on Dec 1 Sports Reporter JAMMU, Nov 29: Wushu Association of Jammu and Kashmir is conducting selection trials to pick up state team for the upcoming 12th Junior National Championship to be held at Manipur from Dec 26 to Dec 31. The trials shall take place at Gulshan Ground, here on December 1. It will be out of this national meet that medalist players will be short listed for the National Wushu coaching camp at SAI Centre Bhopal. Meanwhile, general secretary of the Association, Kuldeep Handoo informed that 1st J&K Sanda Cup shall be organised at Gulshan Ground here from December 17 to December 19, followed by the 10th State Wushu Championship in the first week of February. --------------------------- Kabaddi trials today Sports Reporter JAMMU, Nov 29: Jammu and Kashmir Amateur Kabaddi Association has decided to conduct selected trials from tomorrow to raise team for the forthcoming Senior National Championship. The trials shall be conducted for both men and women at Green Field ground, Gandhi Nagar, here on November 30 at 3.30 pm onwards. The students participated in different types of races like beed race, ball race, finding the shapes race, bowling race, huddles race, spider race, hopping with ball race and legged race and with enthusiasm and excitement. In beed race, Hriday won first place, while Pahul and Akshit bagged second and third place respectively. In simple ball race, Jaipriya, Shreya and Akhilesh claimed first three places respectively. In shapes finding race, Naksh and Shivaansh won first lace, Katyayana and Manveer bagged second place, while Pulkit and Yashvi claimed third place. Meanwhile, in bowlling race, Katyaynand and Mannat bagged first place, Anhad and Akshit bagged second, while Aashray, Rajveer, Devaansh, and Tanisha bagged third. In huddle race, Japtesh won first place, Dhairyash got second, while simran claimed third spot. In spider race Dhairyash bagged first place, Prisha bagged second, while Suhani claimed third spot. JU enters QFs of VC Cup T20 Sports Reporter JAMMU, Nov 29: University of Jammu today reached the quarterfinals stages of the Vice Chancellor's Cup Twenty20 Cricket Tournament underway at Punjabi University Patiala. In the second round match of pre-quarterfinals, JU trounced Jalgaon University, Maharashtra in one sided contest after skipper, Daud Iqbal Baba won the toss and elected to bat first. As per the reports reaching here, batting first, JU set a target of 195 runs for the loss of six wickets. Niranjan Singh Sonu scored unbeaten 43 off just 16 balls while Ameet Targotra contributed 34 runs. Rajesh (33), Akash (18) and Vishal (17) were other main scorers. In reply, Jalgaon University bowled out for just 64 runs. Sashikant and Kishore were only batsmen to reach the double figure mark with 17 and 12 runs in their respective accounts. From JU, Raj Kumar Bakshi bowled deadly spell taking away six wickets while Rajesh took two. Pawan and Nirnjan Sonu shared apiece each. Now, JU shall take on Patiala University tomorrow. Sports Reporter JAMMU, Nov 29: The students of Air Force School Jammu participated in the 9th All J & K State Karate Do championship organized by J&K Tenshinkan Karate Do Association held at Rotary Club Gandhi Nagar, Jammu on 28th and 29th November 2013. A total of 25 students participated in the competition. The students made the school proud by bagging 23 medals - 8 Gold, 7 Silver and 8 Bronze. Dr Dushyant Choudhary was the Chief Guest for the occasion. Inspector Bhupinder Singh, National Level Coach awarded the medals and trophies to the contestants. Ganesh was the instructor of the students. Vikesh Sandhal, Principal Air Force School lauded the efforts of the students and their instructor.
GCW Parade retains Kho-Kho trophy Sports Reporter JAMMU, Nov 29: Government College for Women (GCW) Parade today retained the inter-college Kho-Kho trophy beating the same opponent in GCW Gandhi Nagar by a margin of six points in the title clash that took place at University of Jammu (JU) ground, here. Chasing the GCW Parade women in the last quarter of the game, Gandhi Nagar could not cover the lead in the given time thus lost the game. Director Sports and Physical Education, Prof Dhian Singh Bhau was chief guest in the title clash, who presented the running trophy to Parade College. Handball selection trials today Sports Reporter JAMMU, Nov 29: The Handball Association of J&K has decided to conduct selection trials for sub-junior boys and mini girls teams for the upcoming 30th Sub-junior boys National and 15th mini girls National championship to be held at Lucknow from 17th to 22 December 2013. The three days trials shall take place at Mini Stadium Prade ground Jammu here from 29th Nov to Ist Dec at 4pm respectively.
