Early Times Report

Bhaderwah, Dec 2: To minimize the illegal power load so that people can be given relief from unscheduled power curtailment, a special team of Power Development Department Bhaderwah under the supervision of SDM Bhaderwah Bupinder Kumar today conducted raids in several areas of town and seized large number of illegal power appliances included heaters and boilers .
As per details, a special team of PDD officials led by Mohd Ayoub Najar in charge AEE PDD, conducted series of raids in all wards of Bhaderwah town and in some villages included Sartingal ,Chinta , Bhalla , Sari , Chakka ,Dandi ,Mothala ,Dheraja , Manthala ,Puneja and Sungli and other inner areas of the town and seized a large number of illegal power appliances being used by the people which were putting extra load on power in the area.
The sized appliances include heaters, water boilers, heating rods and other items were also shown to media persons.
The team also disconnected several illegal connections during its raid and warned the defaulters that strict action will be taken against those who will found to involved in this practice in future.
Giving details, PDD officials said that drive has been launched to seize illegal Power appliances with aim to reduce power load which is resulting into unscheduled power curtailment in the area.
They said that if people refrain from using such appliances illegally as well as from illegal hooking, they can get rid off unscheduled power curtailment.
AEE informed that they have constituted special committees of officials armed with special powers to dismantle manufacturing units running on illegally power lines, boilers and heaters and from the last five days drive have seize three dozens of illegal boilers and heaters and have snapped three dozens of illegal connections.
Besides this, the field officials have also been geared up for revenue collection from their areas of posting.
Fixing the target of the revenue collection, the officials have been informed that the monthly salary of those officials will not be released who fail to collect the fixed target of the tariffs. And the officials who will collect revenue more than their target will be suitably rewarded,
Mohd Ayoub Najar in charge AEE PDD Bhaderwah added and said following complaints of rampant power thefts in Bhaderwah area he has directed the officials to cut all the illegal connections within a week adding the officials have also been asked to destroy all power gadgets and machines being used for commercial purposes by some people illegally.
For this, he said help would be sought from police if needed. He also informed that fine will also be charged from illegal connection holders and added that the main reason of unscheduled power cut is theft of electricity as people illegally used boilers and heaters.
It is notable to mention here that in a bid to avoid power theft and break unholy nexus between the dishonest consumers and some Meter Readers, the Power Development Department has adopted a new strategy of frequent shuffling of the latter.
The shuffling policy has led to surfacing of blunders committed by the Meter Readers as some consumers are approaching the PDD authorities with the complaint of increased electricity bills due to excessive reading of meters than the actual one.
According to the sources, the policy of frequent shuffling of the Meter Readers has been adopted to rule out their nexus with the dishonest consumers, who were allegedly managing to manipulate their monthly electricity bills in connivance with the former.
In lieu of money, some Meter Readers used to mention wrong reading of the electricity consumed in their record or sometime even allow the consumers to fiddle with the meters, sources explained.
