| At Lalkar Rally, Rajnath Singh sets the record straight | | Political status of Jammu & Kashmir | | Neha JAMMU, Dec 2: BJP national president Rajnath Singh, who, along with BJP Prime Ministerial nominee Narendra Modi, addressed the massive Lalkar Rally at M A Stadium, Jammu, tore into those Kashmiri leaders, including Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who question the political status of the state by saying that Jammu & Kashmir only acceded and not merged with India. Rajnath Singh set the record straight by invoking Article 1 of the Indian Constitution and sections 3 and 147 of the Jammu & Kashmir Constitution. He told the enthusiastic audience that Article 1 of the Indian Constitution says that Jammu & Kashmir is an integral part of India and this Article cannot be amended even by the Parliament. He also said that section 3 of the Jammu & Kashmir Constitution says the same thing. He suggested, and very rightly, that Article 1 and section 3 are part of the basic structures of the Indian Constitutional framework and no one has the power to tinker with these two provisions. The BJP national president clinched the whole issue when he invoked section 147 of the Jammu & Kashmir Constitution and rightly said that this section unambiguously bars the Jammu & Kashmir Government from amending section 3 of the same constitution, which says that Jammu & Kashmir is and shall be an integral part of India. What he said was the constitutional position and no one challenge what he said. Indeed, no power on earth can amend any of these three provisions. Will the vested interests in Kashmir stop spreading falsehood? |
