No special line, no power back up in premises
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Dec 2: Prolonged and unscheduled power cuts at Maha Kali Mata Temple, Bahu Fort have been irritating the pilgrims visiting the ancient temple during evenings.
One of the most famous temple of the City of Temples, is facing indifference and apathy of the Power Development Department (PDD) and 'Mata Maha Kali Trust', which is looking after the temple for last many decades.
The pilgrims and the residents of Bahu Fort locality are continuously complaining about the prolonged power cuts in the locality, which multiply problems of the pilgrims visiting the temple during late evening.
Sushil Sharma, a pilgrim said, "There should be uninterrupted power supply at such temples. There is no back up also and the entire temple premises plunge into darkness during power cuts leaving pilgrims vulnerable to security threat."
"I wonder what they do with all the offerings of the temple, if they cannot provide the basic facilities to the pilgrims visiting the temple. Many of the pilgrims fell down due to lack of power back up which is must," he added.
"The trust should install generators, which can light up entire complex; they are receiving offerings in lakhs but they hardly spend for bare minimum facilities to the pilgrims," said Vinay Dutta, a regular pilgrim at Maha Kali Temple.
"If they cannot provide facilities to the pilgrims, the government should take this temple under Shrine board, so that the temple can be managed properly and the basic facilities can be provided to the pilgrims visiting the shrine," he added.
Jatinder Kumar alias Bitta Mahant, member of the Trust said, "We have generator in place, but that provides electricity from the main deodi (Gate) to temple, but it takes time to start the generator, whenever the power shuts down."
Bitta Mahant informed that there is some problem with the transformer of the locality, it usually gets damaged and PDD replaces it with the repaired one.
Gurbachan Singh, Superintending Engineer (SE), PDD said, "There are some power cuts in the city due to less generation of power these days, but I will ensure that the temple should get uninterrupted power."
