| Forest employees awake after 2 days; Douse flames with locals help | | | Saahil Suhail
Anantnag, Dec 2 : The employees of the Social Forestery and wildlife woke up after two days to douse forest fire with local help in South Kashmir Kullar-Pahalgam area. Locals told Early Times that during November 29th night, they saw flames coming out from the forests and immediately informed the concerned authorities but they didn't react. A local said when I saw the flames coming out from the forest, I called the Range officer, however he told me not to worry. "I will send the forest officer early in the morning," he replied. He said in the morning he and his friends were amazed to see that the Forest Officer along with two employees came and started to clean their vehicle on road side. "On 30th of November they did nothing, again we informed the DFO and other officials including social forestry department and similarly on 1 December they just visited one area of the forest and came back. We offered help on both days but they denied," he added. Another resident, Ishafq Ahmad said that yesterday when they came to know that it was a conspiracy of forest employees to delay dousing of flames to help timber and charcoal smugglers, the fire fighting started. "The flames destroyed at least 28 green alpine trees in 51 beat of wild life area forest range," he said. |
