| Government getting brazen on corruption: PDP | | | ET Report
Srinagar, Dec 2 : In spite of serious scams tumbling out, the Peoples Democratic Party today said the Omar Abdullah government has responded brazenly by promoting an officer accused of serious malpractices in issuance of fake certificates in the health department. The party General Secretary, Mohammd Dilawar Mir said the government seems on a mission leaving no institution uncorrupted and blamed it has become a standard practise of the rulers to elevate tainted officers to sensitive positions, at a time, when serious allegations of corruption and malpractice are pending against them. Mir said instead of taking stringent action against a top official in the Health Department, for his alleged role in issuance of fraudulent pharmacist certificates to hundreds of youth across the state, in lieu of lakhs of rupees, the government promoted him to a higher position. By doing so, the government is putting the lives of ordinary people on danger by exposing them first to fake drugs, then fake doctors and now to fake pharmacists. According to reports, around 400 persons who have got the fake ISM pharmacist diploma certificates have even managed to get jobs, under the NRHMA scheme, as ISM pharmacists. Both State Vigilance Organisation (SVO) and the State Vigilance Commission (SVC) are probing the matter. Though the chief minister's office is well aware about the matter and has received complaint in this regard in August this year, but still the name of the officer was cleared by the cabinet, for higher position. Mir said it is not a mere case of corruption or misuse of authority, but it is very sensitive in nature and akin to playing with the lives of people whom these fraud appointees will treat. How come the promotion happens when the fraud committed by the tainted officer is already in the public domain? This shows he won't have done it without the blessings of his political bosses. Demanding a thorough probe into the matter, Mir said government must come clear on issue, which has put question mark on the credibility of the important institution. |
