| Mufti compares AAP's emergence with PDP's inception | | ‘Would make J&K an Island of Peace' | | Bivek Mathur
Jammu, Dec 15: Drawing a parallel between Aam admi Party (AAP) that revolutionized the Indian political scenario recently and Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Patron and founder PDP, Mufti Mohmmad Sayeed today asserted that state had got its AAP movement when PDP was constituted in 1989 with a motive to provide an alternative to the residents of state, instead of traditional parties like National Conference and Congress. While commenting on the commendable performance of AAP leader Arvind Kejrival in Delhi, Mufti, in a party function at Vijaypur congratulated Arvind Kejrival for providing a third alternative to the residents of Delhi by getting the traditional BJP and Congress party votes. He however said that Delites got the third alternative in 24 years later than the residents of Jammu and Kashmir. Using the famous idiom 'To change the horses' midstream', Mufti said, "The time provided to the Peoples Democratic Party was very short as compared to other parties, but the development was unprecedeted". Mufti also said that if voted to power, the agenda of the party will be to make Jammu and Kashmir an 'Island of Peace'. He said PDP is ready to go with the policy of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee i.e. maintaining good relationships with the neighbouring country, but is never of opinion to surrender any territory of the state to the neighbouring country. "In our tenure, Army cooperated with the residents of the state and the terrorism was at its Nadir when PDP was in government", adding, "Army contributed equally for the development of the state as done in case of Rajouri when Rs 20 Crore were spent for the construction of schools in Rajouri, Poonch. Even the Jawahar tunnel was open to the vehicular traffic 24 hours in the tenure of PDP and the public was happy". Mufti criticised the National Conference-Congress Government for the power crisis in the state and said that the same was absent during Peoples Democratic Party regime. "It was PDP government when 30,000 people had come out to celebrate the Republic Day in Kashmir by reposing faith in democracy due to better situations created in the valley". Referring to the ongoing nationwide campaign against corruption, Mufti said that at national level the Jan Lok Pal is still being debated but the PDP-Congress Government had constituted State Accountability Commission (SAC), similar to Jan Lok Pal way back in 2003. Similarly the RTI Act was passed by the State legislature in 2004 where as at the national level RTI law was passed in 2005.He further mentioned that direct cash transfer scheme started by the UPA government recently was earlier introduced by the then PDP-Congress government in the year 2003. "We had started the scheme to send money orders to the beneficiaries of various welfare schemes", he recalled. Coming down heavily on government headed by National Conference, he said, "it is unfortunate that the present has diluted this institutions like SAC and RTI". "Instead of taking some effective steps, in view of the nationwide camping against corruption, the present dispensation has eroded sanctity of such institutions to safeguard their vested interests", he said. "PDP is the only alternative before the people of Jammu and Kashmir because agenda of this party is formulated by accommodating aspirations of all sections of the society", he said and sought support for party candidate Yash Pal Sharma for Jammu-Poonch Lok Sabha seat, Responding to the demands of the local people, he said that his party would take up the issue of granting tehsil status to Ramgarh and opening of Degree college at Vijaypur. Other party leaders who spoke on the occasion were Yash Pal Sharma, Arshad Malik, Captain R S Jamwal, Sardar Rangeel Singh, Sardar Trilok Singh Bajwa, Choudhary Hussain Ali Waffa and Baba Choudhary. |
