| When it comes to Jammu, Congress takes a different stand | | Election manifestos or false promises | | Rustam
JAMMU, Dec 15: The other day, AICC vice president Rahul Gandhi and his men made many statements in Delhi during a meeting with Dalit leaders belonging to the Congress party. Rahul Gandhi, inter-alia, said that the Congress would prepare its election manifesto on the basis of people's socio-economic and democratic urges and that the Congress has all along fulfilled the election promises. Had the Congress fulfilled the promises it made in its election manifesto, it would not have suffered a massive defeat in the just-held assembly elections in MP, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and Delhi. Any way, as said Rahul Gandhi gave the Dalit leaders and others to understand that the Congress implements its election manifestos in letter and spirit. It's not true as far as Jammu province is concerned. There is no need to refer to all the Congress' manifestos to make the point that when it comes to Jammu, the Congress throws its election manifestos into dustbin immediately after the election process is over to please the leadership of a section of Kashmiri population. A reference here to its 2002 and 2008 election manifestos will be enough to lay were the disparities between the falsehood and the ground realities. In 2002, the Congress election manifesto had held out a promise that the Congress, if returned to power, would establish a regional development board in Jammu. Did it fulfill the promise? No. It had also held out a commitment that it would end discrimination with Jammu? Did it do that? No. Instead, it joined hands with a Kashmir-based party and perpetrated more injustices on the people of Jammu province. The Congress had also promised that it would implement the Wazir Commission recommendations in letter and spirit? Did it do that? No. Instead, it implemented the report in a wrong way. It created four additional districts in Kashmir overlooking the fact that the Wazir Commission had recommended only one more district for Kashmir and three districts for Jammu. Similarly, in 2008, the Congress election manifesto had promised an amendment in the state constitution calculated to set up an adequately empowered regional council for Jammu. Did the Congress amend the constitution? No. Did the Congress, which has been in power since 2002, set up regional council for Jammu to mitigate the hardship of its citizens included Hindus, Muslims and Sikhs? No. On the contrary, it has been making common cause with the NC, which is known for its bias against the people of Jammu province. Rahul Gandhi would do well check facts before making statements. The fact of the matter is that the Congress has never ever respected the promises it made. On the contrary, it has all along misled and hoodwinked the people by making false promises. |
