| Corruption responsible for Congress debacle in 4 states: Vakil | | Urges Omar to probe assets of politicians, babus | | Early Times Report Rafiabad, Dec 15: Former Minister and Member AICC, Abdul Gani Vakil today stressed upon the Government to ascertain and evaluate the assets raised by all the Politicians, Ministers, Former Ministers, Legislators, Ex. Legislators and bureaucrats viz. a viz. their known source of income and put the facts and figures in public domain. He was addressing various public meetings at Hamam Markoot, Sein and Ladoora in Rafiabad District Baramulla. He said that it is the need of hour because the menace of corruption has now reached to a level where it has endangered coexistence and harmony amongst various sections in the society. Vakil urged Chief Minister to constitute an independent commission to probe into the assets of politicians, ministers, ex. ministers and bureaucrats. "Constitution of an independent commission will create fear among corrupt elements and they will restrain themselves from corrupt practices," he said adding it will restore faith of the masses in the system. He lauded the role of former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad in enacting strong legislation against the corrupt elements. He further said that Corruption generally infuses alienation, dejection and revolt in the minds of masses and undoubtedly render them violent and soft targets for exploiters.He urged that Government is duty bound to address the menace from top to bottom and taking an exemplary stand against corrupt people particularly at the helm of affairs in the state. Vakil said Congress was capable of maintaining the secular fabric of the country despite odds. "It has been a precedent in our party to safeguard the interests of every community especially the backward and the downtrodden minorities," he said.He said that rise of Aam Aadmi Party in Delhi elections must serve as an eye opener for each and every political party in the country particularly for congress. He said the Congress must find out reasons for debacle in four states. He urged the high command to go for introspection. "The party must admit that corruption is responsible for the debacle," he said. Vakil reiterated that that Congress party wanted to develop J&K State as a model state and the projects announced and launched during Gh. Nabi Azad regime would be completed and dedicated within shortest possible time period for masses.
