Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 15: The Jammu and Kashmir Batwal Welfare Association, has demanded that Batwal community be given its due share in all spheres of life.
According to press release, general body meeting of JKBWA was held at Shahzadpur Kothi today which was attended by a large number of community members.
Association members while addressing the meeting said that the Batwal community which has big strength has been totally neglected by the Government at all levels and this has been the reason of its backwardness and abject poverty.
Claiming that the Batwal community has no effective say in the state only due to non-representation to them, members alleged that there was no action on various demands of the community, highlighted through series of memorandums submitted to the Union and the State Government since Independence.
They urged the State Government to settle their grievances by dividing the 13 Scheduled Castes into sub groups with each block assigned their due share of reservation quota in order to ensure equity in reservation benefits granted to all Scheduled Caste communities under the Constitution.
They also urged the Block Development Officer, Marh to get the construction and other developmental works executed at Guru Gyagi shrine in Shahzadpur Marhatha out of Rs 10 lakh sanctioned by the Minister for Planning & Development Ajay Sadhotra.
The other demands highlighted by them included allotment of land to Batwal community in the Jammu City for the construction of Community Facility Hall; Special Economic Package for the community on the basis of Survey Report of the Ethnographic Study of Batwal Community undertaken by the Planning Commission in 1994; and declaration of public holiday on the birthday of Guru Gyagi which falls on Magh Purnima.
