Sports Reporter Bhderwah, Dec 15: In order to encourage the sports activities in the Bhaderwah Campus, a series of sporting events was today inaugurated by Prof. G.M Bhat, Rector in a simple but impressive function held today at Bhderwah Campus. This was the first ever sporting event organized by the campus since its inception way back in 2006. A two match cricket series was played between teaching and non teaching staff of the Campus. Prof. G.M. Bhat, Rector Bhaderwah Campus was the chief guest on the occasion. Convenor sports committee, Kuljeet Singh welcomed the guests, teams and audience. In his address, Prof. G.M. Bhat highlighted the significance of sports in bridging the gaps and their contribution in developing confidence, health and sportsmanship amongst the students and employees of the Campus. He further impressed upon the staff to actively involve themselves in such events and play other sports like chess, table tennis, basket ball, volley ball, badminton etc. for which the state of art facilities will be provided in the campus in near future. Chhering Tandup, Captain, teaching eleven after winning the toss put on board 68 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in 10 overs. Sourabh Shastri was the highest scorer from the teacher eleven. Chasing the target, the non-teaching eleven performed well and won the match in just 08 overs. Hashim, playing captain's inning devastated the teacher eleven with his sky high shots. Teacher eleven scored 49 runs in the 2nd match after non-teaching eleven won the toss and elected to field first. Sourabh Shastri was the highest run scorer from the teachers team. Chasing 49 runs, with the firing shots of Mr. Ameen, non-teaching eleven won in just six overs. Both of the teams were honoured with trophies which were presented by Prof. G.M. Bhat. Ameen was declared man of the match and was honoured with man of the match trophy. Dr. Rakesh Sharma, Convenor students welfare conducted the proceedings. Sunil Bhardwaj, member sports committee delivered vote of thanks. Dr. Neeraj Sharma and Vidhu Koul were the commentators of the entire series. |
