SRINAGAR, Dec 18: Putting all speculations to rest, National Conference (NC) candidate for Ganderbal constituency today said that Omar Abdullah has decided to replace ailing Sonawar constituency candidate in the forthcoming Assembly elections. However, he has urged others to contest from their home constituencies.
NC candidate for Ganderbal constituency, Ishfaq Jabar today said that Omar Abdullah who according to him believes in changing traditional system of election contesting phenomena has not only himself decided to contest from his present home constituency, Sonawar which falls under his Gupkar residence but has also advised others in the party to contest from their home constituencies in 2014 Assembly elections so that traditional system of contesting elections from other constituencies could be wound up.
He said that at present member of legislative Assembly from Sonawar constituency, Yaseen Shah who is not feeling well from some time has decided not to contest 2014 Assembly elections.
Jabar said, not only the party but Omar Abdullah was particular in contesting from Sonawar Constituency to keep other political parties at bay.
"Omar Abdullah wants to change the dynasty system of contesting elections from Ganderbal only and speculations swinging across the state about Omar are baseless as Ganderbal during the time of Sheikh Abdullah was part of Soura constituency not a separate constituency," said Ishfaq Jabar.
He said representing people of other constituencies over the years has proved futile. He added that Wachi people were fed up of Mehbooba's rhetoric were in favour of a local NC candidate this time.
Meanwhile, NC Additional General Secretary, Dr Shiekh Mustafa Kamaal today said that PDP is trying to disseminate a wrong among general public that Omar Abdullah is scared of contesting from Ganderbal. He said Ganderbal witnessed massive development during this regime.
Kamaal claimed that any NC candidate is capable of defeating any candidate of PDP from Ganderbal Constituency and added that NC will again emerge as single largest party.
