Christian Dalits demand inclusion of community under SC status

Jammu, Dec 18: Expressing concerns over non inclusion of the Christian Dalits in the Scheduled Caste (SC) through amending the Indian constitution, J&K Christian Dalit Society Jammu has demanded from state government to provide at least one percent reservation to Dalits among Christians various jobs, and admissions in professional institutions. Speakers also demanded implementation of National Commission for Religious and Linguistic minorities report (Rangnath Mishra Commission).
Describing non inclusion of Christian Dalits under SC status as a great injustice with the community at par with other Dalits, S Peter Chairman J&K Dalit Christian Society today in a press conference said that they demand of National Council of Christian Dalits to amend Para 3 of the Scheduled Caste status in the constitution.
"The society has added that a civil writ petition (180/2004) was filed in the Supreme Court challenging constitutional validity of the Para 3 of the said order, promulgated by the President of India and has appealed for its deletion, he added.
During the media interaction he also said that in May 2007 after a Nationwide studies by National Commission for Religious and Linguistic Minorities Commission Report was submitted to government, the government kept it under carpet for two and half years. "National Commission for Scheduled Caste has also endorsed the National Commission for Religious Linguistic recommendation to extend Scheduled Caste status to Dalit Christians, he said further regretting, "despite all this the UPA government is deliberately delaying the matter for last 9 years, which is a great injustice with the Christians in the country. Speakers also demanded implementation of National Commission for Religious and Linguistic Minorities Report i.e. Rangnath Mishra Commission's recommendations.
