SRINAGAR, Dec 19 : Calling for a change in the political and governance system of the state, senior Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader former Deputy Chief Minister, Muzaffar Hussain Baig today said that due to convictions and commitments of party leadership that the PDP has emerged as a credible and strong political force in all the regions of the State. While senior PDP leader and former finance minister Tariq Hameed Karra in his addressed castigated the government for waging war with the young population of the state. Addressing a workers meeting at Kanihama in Beerwa constituency, Baig said the coming elections offer people of J&K a defining moment in its history which could lead to rewriting the destiny of the state. He said that the party (PDP) was formed to restore dignity and honour of the people of Jammu and Kashmir and to end the State's political and economic despair. Baig said the state after witnessing destruction and political turmoil for many years had reposed its trust repeatedly in democratic process and had participated in elections to choose their representatives to various institutions like the parliament, state assembly, urban bodies and panchayats. But, unfortunately the NC led government eroded their credibility and as a result even the chief minister of the state is not taken seriously by any one whether it is the common man, his cabinet colleagues or the government of India. Speaking on the occasion the former Finance Minister and the PDP's parliamentary candidate for Srinagar constituency, Tariq Hameed Karra said unemployment is a huge challenge and we will need to have a clear policy on tackling it and providing remunerative and dignified jobs to our educated and skilled population. He said the present government has utterly failed on this crucial front and instead of having resolved their problems it has targeted the youth as 'enemies of the state' and demonized them as stone-pelters, drug addicts and criminals. Karra said the functionaries of the present government are neck deep in corruption and it is virtually a mafia Raaj in the State. He said the people shall have to give a befitting reply to NC in upcoming polls for its misdeeds. |
