| `LoC trade is not an Indo-Pak venture' | | Omar proposes, Centre disposes | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 19: The day Chief Minister Omar Abdullah sought conversion of cross LoC trade into currency transaction, Government of India has made it clear that it cannot happen. "The line of control trade is confidence building measure implemented though Home Ministry. Eligible items produced on either side of the LoC are traded under this mechanism and zero duty between J&K and POK. LoC trade is not an India-Pakistan trade," said the Union MoS Commerce and Industry in Parliament on Dec 18. The statement makes it clear that cross LoC trade can't be made an international trade and as such it can't be traded in currency. CM was probably aware of it but he did what he has been accusing the opposition parties of fooling the people and ignoring the real work done by the Government. Omar himself with this statement had tried to befool the people by implying that the Government is serious in converting it into an international trade which will help the locals and the Government is trying hard to achieve the objective. Omar himself knows that Pakistan will never agree to make it an international trade and even if it happens through a miracle, the state Government will have no say in it. "Omar is always saying PDP is falsely taking the credit for the opening of borders but now he is also doing the same and is trying to befool the people," said a senior official. Omar had also said that state has written to the Centre for preparing negative which can't traded but allow the other. "The matter has been discussed in details in the past and there has not been any movement and it has been made clear to state Government. This exercise for public consumption and state Government knows it for certain," said a senior Government official. |
