| SMC official complains against lawyer of Kanwal group | | | Saahil Suhail SRINAGAR, Dec 19: A health officer of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) has filed a compliant in city's Shaheed Gung police station against Kanwal Group's lawyer for allegedly threatening and harassing him. Health Officer (HO) of Srinagar Municipal Corporation Dr. Shafkat Khan told Early Times that he has formally lodged a complaint against spice brand's lawyer Advocate Molvi Aijaz for threatening and harassing him during official timing. "After our disclosure that Kanwal spice brand is using harmful colouring agents which can even cause cancer in Saunf powder, counsel of the said brand visited me in my office and started using abusive language, harassed me and even threatened me of dire consequences for leaking the report in media." Dr Shafkat told Early Times. He said that soon after the lawyer left his office, he lodged a complaint against the lawyer in police station Shaheed Gung of Srinagar city. However, he maintained that he will continue to unmask blackheads in the interests of general public. Meanwhile, a police official confirming the lodging of complaint against lawyer said that they were investigating it. Important to mention here that SMC Health Officer before days disclosed that Saunf powder manufactured by Kanwal Agro Food Industries based in south Kashmir's Anantnag, contained colouring agents like Carmoisine and Tartrazine which can cause serious health hazards including cancer. SMC official had asked people to refrain from using Kanwal Saunf powder after colouring agents like Carmoisine and Tartrazine were found in lifted sample of Kanwal Saunf powder at Central Food laboratory Kolkata after analysis. Interestingly, spice brand while denying the claims of SMC Official has directed its distributors and agents to return back the spice 'Kanwal Saunf powder' so that it could be destroyed.
