Early Times Report
JAMMU, Dec 19: Even as Congress leaders are publicly trying to undermine impact of Modi's "Lalkaar Rally" at Jammu, internally they are worried over impact of BJP Prime Ministerial candidate's speech on Other Backward Classes (OBCs) and other weaker section of the state.
Modi's while addressing Lalkaar Rally on December 1 had refreshed wounds of OBCs who are the worst victims of Article 370 because they have been denied reservation rights all due to this Article. Modi in his address had raked up this issue only to strike emotional chord with weaker sections especially OBCs. As Modi himself belongs to OBCs his appeal has great impact on OBCs of Jammu and Kashmir which include both Hindus and Muslims.
Panic gripped Congress leadership as the OBCs have started debating mis-use of Article 370 after Modi's Lalkaar Rally. It was result of this awakening among OBCs that vice chairman of the OBC Advisory Board Kuldeep Verma rushed to meet Rahul Gandhi to enhance reservation for the community.
Insiders in the Congress said that party leadership was worried over the way some organizations of OBCs and Gujjars are openly coming in support of Narendra Modi. Shifting of OBCs-both Hindus and Muslims towards BJP would change political scenario in J&K so party deputed Kuldeep Verma to meet Rahul Gandhi.
Verma, who met Rahul Gandhi last week, highlighted problems of the OBC demanded 27 percent reservation for the OBC people in J&K as recommended by the Mandal Commission.
During his meeting with Rahul Gandhi, Verma apprised Rahul Gandhi that the population of OBC in J&K was more than 32 percent as per the case based census of 1931 and majority of the population from these classes.
Pertinent to mention here that in other parts of the country OBCs are getting 27 percent reservation but in J&K they are getting only 2 percent reservation. They have been denied reservation like their counter parts in the other parts of the country all due to Article 370 and BJP has been raking up this issue all over the country.
