| Prisons Department aspirants' strike continues, seek justice | | | early times report JAMMU, Dec 19: The hunger strike of aspirants applied for the post of wardens in the Jammu and Kashmir Prisons Department today entered the 18th consecutive day here. The aspirants were protesting against the delay in the release of the final selection list for posts of Wardens in the Prisons Department. "We will not end our fast until our demands are conceded," protestors here today said. Carrying banners, the protestors amid slogans demanded the release of final selection list, which was pending for the last more than three years. "We warn the Government not to test our patience and release the final selection list at the earliest otherwise we will further intensify our agitation,"-a protesting aspirant said. He said that 43,000 unemployed youth had applied for the Post, advertised in 2005 and 1200 candidates were short-listed for the interviews held in the month of September 2010. "Even after more than three years, since the interviews were conducted, the final selection list has not yet been released," the protestors rued. They said that they had also approached the Chief Minister, Ministers and officers concerned but nothing has been done so far adding, 'number of the candidates were nearing overage'. The aspirants however, urged the Chief Minister to personally look into the matter and said that no recruitment has taken place in the Prisons Department since 1995. More than 2000 vacancies are lying vacant in the department but despite that Government is delaying the release of final selection list. |
