| Additional forces to be sent to J&K shortly for ensuring peace | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 19 : Additional companies of paramilitary forces would be sent shortly for upgrading the security grid in Jammu and Kashmir following reports that activists of Lashkar-i-Toiba (LeT) were getting ready to step up the level of violence. Official sources said that troops have been told to strengthen the border management as the latest reports had indicated that groups of militants may make repeated bids for infiltrating into Jammu and Kashmir. In support of their argument that militant activities may witness added dimensions in the next few week as the sources referred to the recent attack on a CRPF patrol party in the outskirts of Srinagar in which one jawan was killed and another injured. Citing another terror related activity, the sources also referred to the elimination of one foreign mercenary in an encounter in Kupwara which indicated that non-Kashmiri militants were trying to sneak into Jammu and Kashmir from across the LoC and the IB for hiking the level of violence. Sources said that first of all those companies of paramilitary forces that were pulled out of Jammu and Kashmir for deployment to states where Assembly election was held recently were being redeployed in the sensitive state. This was going to be followed by deployment at least 20 to 50 additional companies of paramilitary forces soon after the schedule for the Lok Sabha election was announced. Official sources said that the need for deployment of additional companies of paramilitary forces had risen after reports reached the Government indicating thatg prior to the electioneering militants may escalate the level of violence which could create added scare among people so that Kashmir separatists were able to enforce their call for poll boycott and the Government is committed to foil this plan. According to these sources, the contest for the six Lok Sabha seats and for 87 Assembly seats will heat political activities in Kashmir and Jammu region as well, consequently during electioneering it is apprehended violence may hit also and thus additional companies of security forces were needed to prevent anyone from derailing peace.
