| Trifurcation of J&K the only solution, says BSP | | Biased regime | | Rustam Jammu, Dec 21: The number of political groups who favour trifurcation/reorganization of Jammu and Kashmir is increasing by the day. The latest political party that has also taken the plunge and demanded trifurcation of the state is the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) of Mayawati. The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has demanded the trifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir to address the aspirations of all the three regions of the state. Addressing a meeting in the Nagrota Assembly segment, BSP state president Tulsi Dass Langeh only the other day said that "trifurcation is the only solution to all problems of the state" and demanded "statehood for both Jammu and Kashmir regions and Union Territory status for Ladakh". In fact, he reiterated his party's stand on Jammu and Kashmir and explained the reasons why the state must be divided. Those who have been putting forth demands ranging from trifurcation to reorganization to the division of the state into four parts say that the over 62-year-old politico-constitutional and administrative set-up and financial administration have "outlived" their utility and the "time has come to divide the state on regional basis to satisfy the urges of and mitigating the hardships of the people inhabiting three distinct regions of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh". They not only say that the "existing system is Kashmir-dominated and essentially Valley-centric" but also say that those who have been "misruling" the state and "perpetrating injustice after injustice" on the people of Jammu and Ladakh and religious and ethnic minorities in the state, including Kashmir, have also been "brazenly indulging in communal politics and pandering directly and indirectly to separatist forces in the Kashmir Valley". They are also saying that the policies being evolved and enforced ruthlessly by the Valley rulers in collaboration with their "Jammu agents" are undermining the identities of Jammu and Ladakh and the people they house and that has become impossible for them to tolerate such policies. The Kashmiri leadership and its handful of supporters in Jammu always dub as communal those who demand justice for Jammu. Will they also dismiss the BSP as communal? It is time for the ruling elite in the state to refashion their whole approach taking into account the legitimate social, economic and democratic urges of the neglected section of society and hand down to them a system of governance that treats all the sections and all the regions equally at all levels and in all spheres. Besides, they must implement all the centrally-sponsored schemes meant for the minorities and underprivileged groups like Dalits, STs, OBCs and so on. The best course for them is to throw away Article 370 so that the people of Jammu, Kashmir an Ladakh enjoy all the rights available to their counterparts across the country, barring the solitary State of Jammu and Kashmir. |
